Cherry Scones Recipe


Celebrate the Royal Wedding with this special cherry version of traditional, authentic British Scones

2 cups all purpose flour

1 tbsp sugar

4 tsp baking powder

½ tsp salt

3 tbsp butter, cold

2/3 cup milk

½ cup ripe cherries, pitted and cut into halves and quarters

1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp milk for glaze



  1. In a large bowl, place the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and butter.  Cut the butter into small pieces and then rub the mixture together with your fingers, until the mixture resembles fine bread crumbs..
  2. Add the milk and mix in using a knife until the dough comes together and no lumps remain.  When the mixture is almost ready to form a dough gently mix in the cut cherries. 
  3. Dust the dough with flour, place on a floured counter top and roll out to 3/4 inch thick.
  4. Using a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut the dough. Place the cut scones on a greased baking sheet.
  5. Let the scones rest on the baking sheet for 15 minutes while heating the oven to 425F
  6. Just before putting the scones in the oven brush the tops with the egg and milk mixture.
  7. Bake the scones for 12- 15 minutes, until golden and firm.
  8. Remove the baked scones from the oven and let them cool for 30 minutes.
