The HIRE Act
The HIRE Act is passed and signed.
As part to the President Barrack Obama plan to recover the economy the HIRE Act has recently passed to encourage hiring and put America back to work.
The HIRE Act provides for two incentives to an employer who hire new employees between February 3, 2010 and January 1, 2011. Each new hire must certify, in writing, that he or she has been unemployed for 60 days.
The incentives are in two forms.
- Through the end of the year employers will not have to pay new hires, who have certified that they were previously unemployed for 60 days, 6.2% social security payroll tax.
- Employers will be entitled to a credit equal to 6.2%, to a maximum of $1000.00 for each new hire, who meets the conditions above, and who is retained for 52 consecutive weeks. The credit can be taken on the company’s 2011 tax return.
